Princess Marie was visiting Cambodia in her role as patron of DanChurchAid (DCA). Padek is working with DCA and other organizations in providing the emergency response to the 2011 floods in Cambodia. This project is funded by the European Commission (ECHO) and is being implemented in Prey Veng and Kratie provinces. The project is helping poor households badly affected by the floods through alleviating acute food shortages, restoring livelihoods, and increasing resilience to natural disasters and outbreaks of disease.
Princess Marie visited Padek’s field office in Prey Veng in the morning and met with staff. Padek’s Executive Director explained Padek’s work in improving livelihoods and the quality of life for vulnerable communities in Prey Veng, including our activities in emergency response and disaster risk reduction. Princess Marie met with beneficiaries in Kroch village in An Song commune, where she handed out unconditional cash transfers and visited families in their homes. Princess Marie spoke with these families about the recent flood crisis and their current living situation. She then met with the local Self Help Group where she asked members about the role, function and benefits of the SHG to the local community. At the end of her visit, Princess Marie visited a newly repaired road that had been damaged during the 2011 flood.
Local staff participate in Communications Training with the Canadian Hunger Foundation
June 2013 Padek staff had On 26-28th the opportunity to participate in Communications training with Michael Jones, Communications Manager at the Canadian Hunger Foundation (CHF).
Padek and CHF are partnering together on a project in the Oral district of Kompong Speu province, which aims to reduce poverty through improved sustainable livelihoods for the vulnerable poor. This four-year project (2010-2014) covers 15 villages and reaches almost 1000 households.
The Communications training is part of CHF’s objective to build Padek’s capacity in project delivery and organisational development. As part of the training, staff learnt tips on taking better photos in the field, how to interview beneficiaries, and how to write beneficiary stories. Staff were then able to able what they learnt out in the field on a 2-day visit to Oral district. This was a good opportunity for staff to gain a more hands-on experience and to work more closely with Michael. Padek would like to thank CHF and Michael for providing staff with this opportunity for further training and skill development.
